“In 2016 I started a $100 USD series of 11 x 14” portrait paintings to raise funds to open the Free Artist Residency for Progressive Social Change in western Canada. Over 1000 paintings have since sold. I painted the first “Nurse” in 2018. At the point in early 2020, when nurses became were risking their lives to care for patients with covid-19, my depictions of nurses were a continuation of previous images while revealing the emotional toll of their experience. Fear, fatigue, compassion, empathy and a sense of being revered while feeling overwhelmed.”

Jean studied painting at the Vancouver School of Art, but also best known as the singer in the long-standing underground rock duo Mecca Normal.
